Change through Media

What challenges do we face?  More than ever, technology is bringing us closer to other realities, those across the street, as well as across the world.  Media has the power to drive us to pursue interests that shape our global community.  Profiling new voices that narrate the issues we--as a society, as an individual--are working on is a core element of change.

“Change through Media” will feature individuals and organizations who serve as witnesses when others cannot, or will not.  They make sure change gets told--and happens--through media.

The panel includes:

Yvette Alberdingk Thijm, Executive Director, WITNESS

WITNESS, a nonprofit that uses video to open the eyes of the world to human rights violations.  WITNESS empowers people to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools for justice, promoting public engagement and policy change.

Karena Albers, Founder, KONTENTREAL

KONTENTREAL, a documentary film production and strategic entertainment company dedicated to stimulating world leaders and audiences into action for the improvement of our shared planet.  Projects include television programs, theatrical films, online programming, global events, and educational content.

Katherine Fry, Ph.D., Education Director, The LAMP: Learning About Multimedia Project

The LAMP, a nonprofit creating a grassroots movement to reform and improve media, through free media literacy workshops and public events for youth, parents and educators.

Alexia Prichard, Founder and Executive Producer, Closed Loop Films

Closed Loop Films, a production company focused on issues of environmental and social justice, Alexia is an independent filmmaker, videographer and editor, based in Boston.

Moderator: Alicia Marin, Deputy Director, ALAS

ALAS was founded by prominent artists and business leaders from Latin America to mobilize Latin-American society toward the implementation of integrated early childhood public policies, so that every child from 0 to 6 years old can have access to health plans, education and nutrition.

The event starts at 6:30 P.M. with half an hour reserved for networking in the beginning.  The program will run from 7 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. with a Q&A portion at the end.  NYWSE looks forward to seeing you at Green Spaces!  Snacks & refreshments will be provided.
